I know I am not the only person who thinks that Richard Dawkins is a stark raving bull in the china shop of ideas and reason, but I certainly didn't expect confirmation from Matt and Trey.
With that in mind, may I just say that I find the top clip *deeply* hilarious. Which is rarely my reaction to South Park, a show which I tend to avoid like the plague. (By the way, I did watch the episodes below the clip as well. Incredibly gross, as you might expect, but shreddingly effective.)
Richard Dawkins abhors religion and doesn't believe in god, but he sure does believe in science. And given what I've learned about the history of scientific endeavor, with a little sidebar on how selective evidence works, believing in science has proven to be every bit as dangerous to society and the health of the planet (maybe more, even) as believing in the tenets of a given religion.
Before anyone assumes wrongly, yes, I think evolution should be taught far and wide. And no, I don't think that creationism should be, nor its gussied-up city cousin, 'intelligent design,' neither.
But I have been up close and personal with the theology of science for the past 3.75 years, writing a book about the risks of biotechnology, and I can tell you scientists can be every bit as unreasonable as the most adamant religious fundamentalist. Can be, and often are.
